The Warriors’ win in Game 5 of the NBA Finals was one of the most uniquely emotional victories in NBA history. It was the definition of bittersweet, with Golden State keeping alive their hopes of a threepeat while also losing Kevin Durant to a potentially devastating Achilles injury.
Durant was on the shelf for 32 days after sustaining a calf injury in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. As Game 5 approached and his status remained in doubt, there were those who began to question his commitment, and whether or not he was actually healthy enough to play.
After the game, DeMarcus Cousins was asked by Kerith Burke what he thinks about those people.
“Fuck them. Fuck em,” Boogie said.
“Trash. So trash,” he continued referring to the fans who cheered KD’s injury. “But like I said, no one idolizes superstar athletes. Not human beings. It’s always about what we can do between those lines. That’s it. That’s all that ever matters. And then once we lash out and do human-type things, then we’re considered bad guys.”
