Buster Posey has made his feelings on free agent Bryce Harper abundantly clear: he wants him on the Giants. Posey spoke to reporters earlier today, and was asked about his thoughts on the Giants’ meeting with Harper and potentially signing him.
“I mean what team out there wouldn’t want a Bryce Harper or Manny Machado, or a lot of free agents out there?” said Posey. When Posey was asked about Harper specifically, he was blunt.
“Yeah, sign him up,” Posey said.
This came after Farhan Zaidi, the Giants’ president of baseball operations, revealed that he, manager Bruce Bochy, and Giants CEO Larry Baer had indeed met with Harper and his representatives, in a meeting that lasted multiple hours in Las Vegas. Zaidi said the two sides have “mutual interest” in reaching a deal.
It might be a long wait, however, as Ken Rosenthal reported that both Harper and Machado are seeking $300 million contracts, and neither one wants to be the first to sign.
