Steve Kerr isn’t leaving the Warriors anytime soon. When he does, however, at least one Hall-of-Famer is interested in replacing him.
“One day, I’ll come back and hopefully coach in the Bay Area,” Jason Kidd told Yahoo Finance. “This has always been home. And so hopefully maybe in high school, maybe in college. Or maybe if Steve Kerr ever decides to stop coaching, I can maybe help out with the Warriors one day.”
Kidd, 45, was fired by the Milwaukee Bucks midway through last season following a 23-22 start. In three and a half years with the Bucks, Kidd compiled a 139-152 record. He also coached the Nets for one season in 2013-14, leading them to a 44-38 record.
Before becoming a head coach, Kidd spent 19 seasons as one of the leagues premier point guards, making the All-Star team 10 times, and winning an NBA title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Kidd is a San Francisco native and attended the University of California – Berkeley from 1992-1994.
Kerr, 52, on the other hand, has led the Warriors to a 265-63 record and three NBA Championships in three seasons. He also signed a multi-year deal this offseason, making him the leagues highest paid coach.
