Schrager: 49ers can make a run to the NFC Championship Game in 2018

The 49ers hype train is rolling full steam ahead, and a few national writers are hopping aboard.

The latest rider is Fox and NFL Network reporter Peter Schrager, who said on Tuesday that he thinks the 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo have a good shot to make the NFC Championship Game in 2018.

“The 49ers to me are the team that went, yeah 6-10, but I still think they can make a run to the Conference Championship Game,” Schrager said. “They have their quarterback in place with Garoppolo, and they added great pieces. Jerrick McKinnon is going to be the fourth highest paid running back in all of football, and just wait until you see how Kyle Shanahan uses him in that offense. Weston Richburg is a serviceable center they got from the Giants and they add Richard Sherman as well.

“I look at the 49ers team and the hype is out of control. This is the cinderella team that everybody in the office — including the guy in the accounting department, in the marketing department, at the water cooler — is circling, that’s the team.

“I am going with the 49ers as your cinderella team next year, going from 6-10 straight to the Conference Championship. I think it’s very possible.”

According to Sportsbook, the 49ers have the fifth highest odds (10/1) in the NFC to win the Conference Championship Game next season.
