Giancarlo Stanton trade expected to be finalized in two-to-three days [report]

The San Francisco Giants should have their answer sooner rather than later.

On Sunday afternoon, Sirius XM Radio host Craig Mish reported that a trade involving Miami Marlins’ slugger Giancarlo Stanton will be finalized within the next two-to-three days. Mish and several other prominent national reporters have long considered the Giants the favorites to land the 2017 National League MVP, but the St. Louis Cardinals are also heavily involved in trade talks with the Marlins.

Mish reported that the Cardinals have increased their offer to the Marlins and are now willing to take on more of the remaining $295 million left on Stanton’s contract than the Giants are, but Stanton still controls his fate because he has a full no-trade clause.

On Thursday evening, Giants’ general manager Bobby Evans and vice president of baseball operations Brian Sabean reportedly met with Stanton’s representatives in Los Angeles to discuss a possible trade. The next day, the Cardinals also reportedly had team personnel in Los Angeles to meet with Stanton’s representatives.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are widely considered Stanton’s preferred destination, but it appears as though the Dodgers are unwilling to assume enough of the remaining salary on Stanton’s deal to entice the Marlins into considering an offer.
