Foster on playing the Seahawks: There are a lot of guys ‘I saw on TV when I was young’

For the 49ers, their matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday is a chance to take advantage of a struggling opponent and lock down their second win of the season. For linebacker Reuben Foster, it’s a chance to size himself up against several veterans in the league he grew up idolizing.

“For real, there are a lot of guys on that team that I’ve looked up to and saw on TV when I was young,” Foster told Murph & Mac on Wednesday morning. “It’s crazy, like Bobby Wagner. [Richard] Sherman, he’s one of my guys that I’ve looked up to. [Russell] Wilson to get a chance to go up against him, it’s a real honor. I want to go up against these guys I grew up watching.”

Although Foster will miss cornerback Richard Sherman, whose season came to an end after rupturing his Achilles’ tendon, and only see linebacker Bobby Wagner when both teams’ defenses swap places, he will have the opportunity to face and possibly sack quarterback Russell Wilson.

Despite dealing with a recurring ankle injury, Foster has posted 24 tackles and eight assists in four games in his rookie season.

As the 49ers emerge from their bye week, Foster has yet to record the first sack of his career, a milestone he’s surely eager to reach. How memorable would it be for him to do so against a quarterback he thinks so highly of?
