49ers promote offensive tackle from practice squad [report]

The 49ers signed offensive tackle Bryce Harris earlier this week, but a day before San Francisco hosts Arizona, it appears as though Kyle Shanahan’s squad is going to use a different tackle in the role the team envisioned for Harris.

On Saturday morning, practice squad tackle Darrell Williams’ agent of the STL Sports Group tweeted that the 49ers promoted Williams to the active roster, and NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco indicated that the move meant San Francisco planned to play Williams ahead of Harris on the offensive line this week.

The 49ers lost a pair of offensive tackles last week in their loss to the Eagles, including veteran left tackle Joe Staley who will miss at least the next two games. With starting right tackle Trent Brown set to return from a concussion that sidelined him last week, Williams will likely fill in for Staley at left tackle.

It’s unclear whether Harris will be suited up and active on Sunday, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise given San Francisco’s depth issues along the offensive line.
