Giants expected to hire Curt Young as pitching coach [report]

As the dust of another memorable World Series settles, the Giants filled in another piece to their coaching staff puzzle on Friday evening.

Although the team has not confirmed the hire, Henry Schulman reported that the Giants are closing in on a deal to bring on former A’s pitching coach Curt Young to San Francisco.

Young spent all, but one season of his major league career with the A’s. After retiring 1993, Young returned to the organization as Oakland’s pitching coach from 2004-2010 and then 2012 through this past June. He was fired by the A’s during a tough stretch in the A’s pitching staff, regardless of the fact Oakland was one of the worst defensive teams in the major leagues.

In 2011, he served as the pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox.

Young joins hitting coach Alonzo Powell (Astros) and bullpen coach Matt Herges (Dodgers) as the newest hires to the Giants’ coaching staff with only the assistant hitting coach left to fill.
