Eric Reid undergoing MRI on right knee [report]

The 49ers were unable to seal the deal in a frustrating 12-9 loss at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Adding injury to insult, safety Eric Reid, who has been one of the bright spots for the 49ers so far, left the game with a knee issue in the third quarter. Reid is currently undergoing an MRI on the right knee as of Monday afternoon, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Reid, 25, initially tweaked his knee in the second quarter and left the game, but returned to the field twice before the injury left him on the ground in the third quarter, ending his day for good. Reid has been excellent so far this season, in a new, more aggressive role as a safety-linebacker hybrid in Robert Saleh’s defense. If Reid were to miss time, he’d likely be replaced by Jaquiski Tartt, who would likely move over from free safety with Jimmie Ward hopefully healthy enough to man that position next week.

Expect an update during Kyle Shanahan’s press conference around 4 p.m. on Monday.
