49ers work out 10-year NFL veteran cornerback [report]

The 49ers announced their preliminary 53-man roster on Saturday, but first-year general manager John Lynch and new head coach Kyle Shanahan could be looking to make some additional tweaks.

According to report from Cam Inman of The Bay Area News Group, the 49ers are working out 10-year NFL veteran Leon Hall on Tuesday.

Hall spent the first nine seasons of his career playing cornerback for the Cincinnati Bengals before suiting up for the New York Giants during the 2016 season. Hall hasn’t been a full-time starter since the 2014 season, but he could bring much-needed veteran leadership to a young and inexperienced group of defensive backs.

The 49ers elected to keep five cornerbacks on their initial 53-man roster, and all five players are 26 years old or younger. Hall is 32 years old, and has nearly as much NFL experience as San Francisco’s cornerbacks have combined for.

Inman reported that the 49ers worked out Hall earlier this offseason, and that he could help the team as a nickelback if they do wind up signing him.
