Bolden races past Chargers for his second special teams touchdown of preseason

Victor Bolden wasn’t drafted by the 49ers.

But he’s done all he can to prove he belongs with the 49ers.

On Thursday evening, Bolden was tasked with making a closing argument to prove why San Francisco should keep the undrafted receiver out of Oregon State on its 53-man roster. It’s safe to say Bolden built up a convincing case.

With San Francisco ahead 10-3 late in the second quarter, Bolden caught a punt inside the 49ers’ own 10-yard line, and then proceeded to make the Chargers’ punt unit look silly.

Bolden scampered to his right, dashed up the field and raced right past a slew of would-be-tacklers attempting to bring him down. A few Los Angeles players had a chance to bring Bolden down around midfield, but that opportunity never materialized.

The 49ers’ returner would up sprinting in for a 92-yard touchdown that marked his second special teams touchdown of the preseason. If the 49ers were still deciding on Bolden’s roster status, his return on Thursday night should help clear things up.
