Former 49ers’ linebacker Ahmad Brooks signing with Green Bay Packers [report]

That was fast.

Five days after the San Francisco 49ers cut linebacker Ahmad Brooks, the 33-year-old Brooks found a new home with the Green Bay Packers.

On Wednesday morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Brooks signed a one-year deal worth a base salary of $3.5 million. Rapoport also reported that there are incentives in Brooks’ contract that would allow him to make up to $5 million in 2017 with his new club.

Brooks was cut by the 49ers after spending eight seasons in San Francisco. He left San Francisco ranking third all-time in franchise history in sacks, as he registered 51.5 during his tenure.

Brooks battled with linebacker Eli Harold for a starting job in the 49ers’ defense under new coordinator Robert Saleh, and ended up losing out on the competition last week. 49ers’ general manager John Lynch said the franchise elected to cut Brooks so that he could find a new home in time for the start of the regular season.

Lynch and first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan have overhauled the roster since taking over this spring, and Brooks was not an ideal fit in Saleh’s new 4-3 scheme. Brooks had one year remaining on his contract when the 49ers elected to cut him.
