Maiocco: Carlos Hyde and offensive line haven’t been impressive

The unexpected optimism arising from the 49ers training camp has been an unusual, but welcomed reprieve for Niners fans, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the team has become an overnight fix.

After showcasing promising signs during camp, and defeating the Chiefs 27-17 in their first preseason game, the Niners faced a set back in last week’s sloppy loss to the Broncos — a loss that featured four first half turnovers and just 37 rushing yards.

49ers insider Matt Maiocco joined Murph and Mac on KNBR Thursday morning, where he discussed his biggest concern about the Niners in the upcoming season.

“I think this might be the only thing 49ers fans should concern themselves with as far as carrying over to the regular season is the lack of a running game by the first team offense,” Maiocco said. “Those offensive guards are a reason for concern. You’re going to need those guys to be able to run between the tackles and thus far it hasn’t been a real consistent, impressive piece of work with Carlos Hyde in the first team offensive line.”

The Niners will head to Minnesota this week to take on the Vikings Sunday.
