It’s official, Solomon Thomas is the newest member of the San Francisco 49ers.
The third-overall pick in the 2017 was just one of three first-round picks that remained unsigned as of Friday morning, something that general manager John Lynch said was a cause for concern in Thursday’s press conference.
After Lynch went on KNBR and said he was optimistic the two sides were close, Thomas finally put pen to paper at the 49ers’ facility on Friday, just before the start of the 49ers’ first practice of the season.

Based on his draft position, Thomas is likely to have singed a four-year $28 million contract that is fully guaranteed. It is assumed that negotiations surrounding “offset language” in the contract, which allows the team to save money if they release a player, is what made this process take longer than expected.
Thomas, 21, was a third-team All-American at Stanford and won the Morris trophy in 2016 given to the best defensive lineman in the Pac-12. Thomas is a DE/DT hybrid that is expected to receive playing time immediately in the 49ers new 4-3 scheme.
