Giants call up minor league outfielder to replace Nunez

After the Giants kicked off their trade deadline activity by dealing Eduardo Nunez to the Red Sox last night, a roster spot was opened on the big club. The team will reportedly call up 28-year-old outfielder Carlos Moncrief in the wake of Nunez’s departure.

Moncrief was in the Indians organization before coming to San Francisco. But the left-handed hitting Moncrief has spent the last two seasons in the Giants’ farm system, first with AA Richmond last season and now with AAA Sacramento in 2017.

This year, Moncrief hit .287 with two home runs and 21 RBIs in 71 games for the River Cats. He played mainly in right field, but has also played in center and left during his minor league career. The former 14th round pick had his best season as a pro with Cleveland affiliate AA Akron in 2013, when he hit 17 home runs and stole 15 bases while hitting .284.
