During Tuesday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Giants third baseman Eduardo Nunez left the game as he got word the Giants were shipping him off to Boston.
Nunez has been having himself a nice season for the orange and black, one of two players batting above .300 on the season. Because of that, as well as Nunez’s expiring contract, many members of the media thought Nunez was a likely trade target for teams looking for a boost heading into the trade deadline.
The writing may have been on the wall, but that didn’t stop Twitter from having some fun with Nunez’s departure. Check out some of the better tweets that were put out immediately following news of the trade.
He was only here a year; #SFGiants lost a ton of games while he was here; and yet on some level, I will miss Smilin' Ed Nunez.

Sandoval left River Cats game at previously scheduled time, but him walking off during Nuñez #HugWatch is funny timing.

Nuñez loves SF, told me a couple of weeks ago he would like to come back even if traded. So, check back in November.

Folks need to remember Nuñez is 60 games for free agency, so no reason NOT to trade him. They can re-sign if they want in Nov. They like him

Godspeed, Eduardo Nunez, you were a fun Giant. Play some winning baseball and please never get a helmet that fits you.

Eduardo Nunez received plenty of teammates' hugs upon leaving game in 5th inning, and there was an ominous finality to the scene.
