Sergio Romo spent the first nine seasons of his career with the San Francisco Giants. He lasted just over half of one season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers announced on Thursday that the 34-year-old was designated for assignment.

While the Dodgers are tearing through the rest of the league with an MLB-best 66-29 record, Romo has struggled. In 30 appearances, Romo pitched 25 innings and accumulated a 6.12 ERA.
Romo was drafted in the 28th round by the Giants in 2005, and broke into the league with the organization in 2008. He was a key part of a Giants’ bullpen that won three world championships, and was the team’s closer in the 2012 title run.
Romo stayed on the West Coast to sign with the Dodgers, in large part to be close to his family.
Romo is only signed through the 2017 season at a $3 million salary. Within seven days, Romo can either be traded or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.
