After providing the heroics with a walk off single in last night’s 2-1 extra innings win over the Indians, it now looks like Eduardo Nunez may not be with the Giants much longer. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Nunez has been made available by San Francisco, and the Boston Red Sox are among the teams with an eye on him.

The Red Sox missed out on their main third base target last night when Todd Frazier was traded to the Yankees. Nunez is a solid backup for Frazier that brings a much different style of play but also likely at a cheaper price. Nunez is set to be a free agent at the end of the season, but has played consistently for the Giants this year.
The 30-year-old Nunez is hitting .295 with four home runs and 17 steals this season. He has around $2 million left to be paid on his contract, so it’s likely the Giants wouldn’t have to eat any money should they wind up trading him. That would open the door for San Francisco to get more talent in the players they would receive for Nunez. There’s still more than 10 days until the trade deadline, so we’ll see if the Giants move to trade Nunez quickly or bide their time and weigh multiple offers.
