Buster Posey is one of the few Giants living up to expectations this season.
Posey is starting at catcher for the National League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game for the fourth time (his fifth appearance in the midsummer classic overall) and currently boasts the fourth highest batting average in the NL, .324, midway through the season.
Posey, 30, has been a staple of the Giants’ lineup since his call-up in May of the 2010 season. Posey would like that to continue indefinitely according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, who reported on Tuesday that Posey wishes to end his career in San Francisco.
“Obviously, that’s my goal. That’s what I would like to do,” Posey said before Monday’s All-Star workout. “It’s based on success we’ve had and I feel a connection with the city, with the fans. It’s home for my kids, and it’ll be home for them. Obviously, things can change. But I would love nothing more than that.”
Posey’s current contract lasts through the 2022 season, which includes a club option. In addition to his five All-Star appearances, Posey has earned three World Series rings, an MVP award, Rookie of the Year award and a batting title during his time in San Francisco.
“I think I’m OK at this point in my career where my agent’s not going to get mad at me for saying that.”
