There aren’t many teams in the Western Conference that can challenge the Golden State Warriors, but the San Antonio Spurs happen to be one of them.
That’s why a report from ESPN’s Chris Haynes indicating Warriors’ free agent Andre Iguodala will meet with the Spurs when free agency begins is such significant news.
Soon as free-agency period begins, Andre Iguodala will meet with the San Antonio Spurs in Los Angeles, league sources tell ESPN.

The Warriors have had a stronghold on the NBA’s Western Conference for the last three seasons, but Golden State needed to defeat Gregg Popovich’s Spurs’ squad to reach the NBA Finals this season.
Iguodala has spent the last four seasons with the Warriors, but the 33-year-old guard is a free agent and will reportedly explore his options on the open market even after winning two titles in three years with Golden State.
The Warriors are limited in how much they can offer Iguodala because the team plans to re-sign Kevin Durant and Steph Curry to massive contracts this offseason, so it’s entirely possible Iguodala will be able to command a much higher salary from a different organization.
Led by one of the NBA’s top all-around players Kawhi Leonard, and a revered coach, Popovich, the Spurs could be one of the more attractive landing spots for a veteran like Iguodala who still has plenty to offer a contending team.
Iguodala was the 2015 NBA Finals MVP in Steve Kerr’s first season as the Warriors head coach, and also played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ Game 5 win that clinched the NBA Finals for Golden State this season.
NBA free agency begins July 1.
