The hits keep coming for Mark Melancon. Earlier this week reports surfaced of clubhouse tension involving he and his teammates. Melancon and company shrugged off the reports and appeared to be moving on, but now after making three consecutive scoreless appearances, Melancon will be placed on the 10-day disabled list with an elbow injury.

Melancon missed some time with an elbow injury earlier this season as well. He’s lowered his ERA to 4.35 in recent days, and had pitched well in three outings over the last eight days.
Dan Slania will be called up from AA Richmond to replace Melancon. Bruce Bochy told reporters Slania is being called up mostly due to circumstance, as he is the freshest available arm on the 40-man roster. Slania, a 2013 5th round pick out of Notre Dame, was recently demoted from AAA Sacramento to Richmond.
He’s made 15 appearances across the two levels this season, each time as a starter. Slania went 0-8 with a 7.82 ERA at Sacramento this year, but is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in Richmond. Bochy said Slania’s flight is delayed, but the skipper is hopefully Slania will arrive at AT&T Park in time to be available on Wednesday. The Giants are looking for a sweep against the Rockies this afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:45 p.m.
