Colin Kaepernick among top-selling NFL jerseys for May despite being free agent

Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick doesn’t have a spot on an NFL roster, but his jersey is still selling with the best of them.

The NFL’s official online shop released their top-selling jerseys for the month of May, and Kaepernick’s 49ers jersey came in at 17th on the list of 25 players. Even with the jerseys of recently-drafted players and big name free agents who’ve changed teams now available, Kaepernick still made it on the leaderboard.

Marshawn Lynch’s new Raiders jersey was the number one seller, and Kaepernick beat out players like Dez Bryant, Russell Wilson and Cam Newton on the leaderboard.

It should be noted that Kaepernick’s 49ers jerseys are on sale on the NFL online shop for up to 40 percent off. He recently was considered for a backup spot with the Seattle Seahawks, but they decided to sign Austin Davis instead.

Kaepernick’s continued unemployment has been a topic of much discussion this offseason. There have been reports that questioned his interest in playing in the NFL at all anymore, and others that have claimed he’s heard from multiple teams with interest in him. He started 9 games for the Niners last season while throwing for 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

It would be a surprise if Kaepernick doesn’t land on some team before the 2017 season, provided he has interest in playing. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how his red #7 jersey continues to sell online.
