A Cleveland columnist slammed Stephen Curry in a piece posted on Cleveland.com Friday, accusing the two-time MVP of taking an “air-dump” while celebrating Kevin Durant’s go-ahead three-pointer late in the fourth quarter. The columnist called Curry’s intent obvious before trashing his character, referring to him as “arrogant, whiny, utterly classless.”
“From Curry’s perspective, Durant’s signature moment was not clutch enough to stand on its own. Nearby Curry, in “celebration,” decided to pause to take an air-dump on the court before heading to the other end.”
“Of course Curry thought about what he was doing; he took his binky out of his mouth before pretending to relieve himself, then put it back in his mouth. Wonderful example, Steph, for all of the youngsters who look up to you — especially the Christian ones.
“I didn’t think it was possible for anyone to make Draymond Green look better by comparison, but Curry managed to do so.”
Here’s video of the celebration in question:
Curry was asked about the “incident” on Thursday and denied that there was any intent behind it.
“It’s all spontaneous. I wish I could have a little more control over the reactions in certain situations,” Curry told reporters. “I really don’t know what I did last night — I saw it, I saw it, I don’t know what I was doing (laughs). And I even dropped my mouthpiece because I was so uncoordinated.”
Curry also said he was not influenced by Randy Moss’ infamous fake mooning celebration.
“Nah, no Randy Moss, none of that stuff,” Curry said. “Just having fun I guess.”
