With a huge amount of salary cap space remaining, the 49ers have worked out a number of veterans free agents in the past few weeks and they’ve finally inked one to a contract. General manager John Lynch announced in a tweet Monday morning that the team has signed former All-Pro linebacker Elvis Dumervil to a contract. Terms have yet to be reported.

It was reported last week that the Niners were scheduled to work out Dumervil, and it appears as though that work out went well. Dumervil was released by the Baltimore Ravens on March 8 after four years with the team and didn’t generate too much interest to this point. The 33-year-old was a two-time All-Pro and has been named to the Pro Bowl five times.
He has 99 career sacks and was one of the most feared pass rushers in the league in recent years with the Broncos and Ravens. Last season Dumervil was limited to just eight games due to injury problems, but contributed 3.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.
It will be interesting to see where Dumervil finds a spot on the 49er defense, but regardless of where he lines up he could serve as a good mentor for the young pass-rushers the 49ers have taken in recent first rounds – Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas.
UPDATE: It appears as though Dumervil’s deal with the 49ers is reportedly for two years.
49ers gave former Ravens' OLB Elvis Dumervil a two-year deal, per source.
Dumervil and 49ers GM John Lynch were teammates in Denver.
