Giants beat Dodgers on Posey’s impressive pickoff to end the game

SAN FRANCISCO – In the words of the great Duane Kuiper: “Posey! To Crawford! And that’s your ball game!”

It was a satisfying way to beat the Giants’ biggest rivals in their first matchup of the season. A pickoff throw to second base to grab Justin Turner in the midst of one of the most difficult times in recent Giants history. It was a slight break from the turmoil that has been the start of 2017 for Bruce Bochy and gang.

If nothing else, it was a message from Buster Posey to those around the game that think he should pack up his catcher’s gear and don a first baseman’s glove as he slides into his 30’s. He’s already missed seven games this season, although it had nothing to do with being a catcher when Diamondbacks pitcher Taijuan Walker nailed him square in the head with a mid 90’s fastball.

Regardless, the Giants hope it’s a sign that the tide is turning for last year’s NL Wild Card representatives. At 7-13 to start the season, San Francisco is looking for any spark that might ignite a run back into early contention.
