Kyle Shanahan’s first season as the 49ers’ head coach will begin on Sept. 10, when San Francisco hosts 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers at Levi’s Stadium, the second season in a row the 49ers will be facing the 2015 Super Bowl runners-up. The 49ers have not lost in Week 1 since 2010, and haven’t opened their season on a Sunday since 2014.
For the third straight year, the 49ers will hit the road in Week 2, and face division rival Seattle. The 49ers have been blown out in their last two Week 2 treks to Pittsburgh and Carolina, and were also blown out the last time they visited the Seahawks in Week 2, losing 29-3 in 2013.
San Francisco will get their mandated Thursday night game out of the way in Week 3, heading back home to host the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers shutout the Rams in prime time in their season opener in 2016. It will be the team’s only prime time appearance in 2017.
The 49ers will then be on the road in Weeks 4-6, the first time since 2005 the team has played three consecutive road games.
Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley will face their former team in Week 13, when the 49ers head to Chicago to face the Bears for the fourth season in a row.
