Angel Pagan will sit out 2017 season to spend time with family [report]

After the Giants elected not to re-sign Angel Pagan this offseason, the outfielder did not find a new home during the free agency period. Those hoping San Francisco might want to bring Pagan back in as a solution to their left field woes better think again, however, as Pagan has decided to sit out the 2017 season to spend time with his family according to El Vocero, and as unearthed by Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Pagan was reportedly only looking to sign for a starter-grade salary, and according to Ken Rosenthal, turned down two separate guaranteed deals. According to Jon Heyman of MLB.com, Pagan had even reached an agreement with the Orioles before a failed physical sank the deal.

Pagan, 35, says that although he will not play this season, he is not formally retiring. Though his defense deteriorated, the veteran outfielder had a decent season at the plate in 2016, finishing with a line of .277/.331/.418, with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs. Pagan was with the Giants from 2012-2016 and was a part of two World Series winning teams.
