After signing Vance McDonald to a multi-year deal in December, the 49ers are looking to beef up their depth at the tight end position.
San Francisco is planning on signing former Bears tight end Logan Paulsen, considered one of the best blockers at the position, according to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area.

Paulsen, 30, spent six seasons with the Redskins from 2010-2015, and last season with the Bears. Pro Football Focus graded Paulsen as the seventh best run blocking tight end in the league in 2016. He only caught three passes for 15 yards last year with the Bears, and has 82 receptions for 816 yards and six touchdowns over six NFL seasons.
Paulsen is the fifth offensive player the 49ers have been linked with adding, along with QB Brian Hoyer, FB Kyle Juszczyk, WRs Pierre Garçon and Marquise Goodwin. Paulsen played under Shanahan when he was the offensive coordinator in Washington from 2010-2013.
The 49ers signed McDonald to a 3-year, $19,650,000 contract in December of last season.
