Stephen Curry made headlines Wednesday afternoon, when he was asked to comment on Under Armor CEO Kevin Plank’s statement that President Donald Trump is an “asset” to the country.
“I agree with that description,” Curry told the San Jose Mercury News. “if you remove the ‘et.’”
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr began his media session before Wednesday’s game by poking fun at the comments, when asked his opinion on players speaking about political issues.
“First of all as (head of Warriors PR) Raymond (Ridder) just said, ‘Steph is one of our best assets,’ ” Kerr said.
Kerr went on to praise the way his players have represented themselves when asked to comment on social issues.
“Our players are grown men, they have a microphone in front of them, they are welcome to say whatever they want,” Kerr said. “I’m proud of them, they’ve done an amazing job of representing themselves and our team, and this is a time when people are speaking out. This is a time when activism is coming back into the forefront all over the map, and it’s an open forum. Players can say whatever they want.”
