John Lynch is one bright mind, but he’s determined to fill Santa Clara with more of them on this 49ers rebuild.
CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco is reporting Lynch has hired Adam Peters as San Francisco’s vice president of player personnel.
“Outside, I don’t want to get into specifics, but I can just tell you that we are going to be really aggressive,” Lynch said on a conference call Monday. “The response I can tell you has been magnificent from people who really want to be here.”
Peters has been in the NFL 13 seasons, starting with the Patriots. His most recent eight seasons have been spent with the Broncos, where he served as John Elway’s director of college scouting in 2016. Peters is also a native of Cupertino.
“He’s climbing this quickly with two of the best organizations in the sport,” an AFC scout told KNBR.com. “That tells you everything you need to know about him.”
Peters’ lengthy background in college scouting should be music to 49ers fans ears. Denver has built a powerhouse using the draft — Von Miller, Demariyus Thomas, Derek Wolfe, Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan are all recent draft picks that led the Broncos to a Super Bowl last year. Peters is adding a new set of eyes desperately needed upstairs in Jed York’s building.
More lieutenants and deputies are expected to join Lynch in San Francisco’s front office, although the new GM is keen on keeping Tom Gamble around.
“I will say for someone like Tom Gamble, he’s got a ton of experience in this business and I’d be a fool not to sit down and soak that up,” Lynch said. “I’m eager to do that and like I said before, I’m very appreciative and I can’t wait to communicate how appreciative I am to the people in the building that are working really hard while things are kind of in flux and very soon we are all going to all be working together. I’m very appreciative and eager.”
