The Warriors may be getting a lift off their bench in the near future.

First round pick Damian Jones has been cleared for basketball activities and will start his rehab assignment with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Jones tore his pectoral muscle two weeks before the draft. The Warriors selected the 6-foot-11 big man out of Vanderbilt with the No. 30 overall pick.

Zaza Pachulia, JaVale McGee, Kevon Looney, Anderson Varejao and James Michael McAdoo have served as the team’s big men to start the season. It’s likely Varejao or McAdoo will lose their roster spot when Jones is promoted from the NBA D-League.

“I’m anxious to see him play,” Steve Kerr said the other day at practice. “We’re excited about him. He’s a great kid, athletic. He kind of gives us something that would really compliment our core group of players well.”
