San Francisco is still basking in the aftermath of Wednesday’s 3-0 Wild Card win over the Mets.
Former Giants players seem just as happy as the current ones. Ryan Theriot joined The Audible on KNBR 1050 this morning to give his initial thoughts. Hint: Bruce Bochy matters a ton.
“I’m so fired up,” Theriot said. “Just texting back and forth with coaches and players after the game last night. Will Clark and I had a nice little text conversation going. Look guys, I think we saw how important Bruce Bochy and that calming manner he has over that team. Those guys never panic.
“Look at the celebration. They expected to win. They knew they had the game right where they wanted the entire time. I’ll be honest with you, after being in that clubhouse, that started in spring training. And they expected to be where they are right now. It’s unfinished business, just like (Madison) Bumgarner said.”
Co-host Kevin Frandsen made an observation that home run hero, Conor Gillaspie, reminds him some of Theriot. Gillaspie’s three-run jack secured the win alongside Bumgarner’s shutout performance.
“First off, Conor is a really good player,” Theriot said. “He’s a former first round pick, a guy who was in the minor leagues when I was in San Francisco, a guy that traditionally grinds out at-bats. Anytime you see a dude who doesn’t wear batting gloves in the big leagues, he’s a grinder.”
