Krukow: Giants ‘ticked off’ by situation in St. Louis, channeled anger into comeback

The Giants were low-key in their response to the debacle in St. Louis last night, where the Cardinals were granted a walk-off win after umpires failed to call a ground rule double that would’ve kept the game tied. With the Cardinals just a game behind the Giants for the second Wild Card spot, the controversy could have a significant effect on the playoff race, and would’ve been even more disastrous if the Giants hadn’t come back in a 7-2 victory over Colorado last night.

Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow saw the incident as a blessing in disguise, however, and told the Murph and Mac show on Friday morning that once the team learned what had happened in the dugout, they channeled their anger into the crucial comeback victory.

“One of the first times we really, collectively, felt the emotion of the race, and it was the anger of how the game went down in St. Louis,” Krukow said. “It kind’ve lit the match. We all felt that something got taken away from us.”

“They’re gonna say ‘oh we really weren’t paying attention’…bull. They were looking at the board and when they found out how it all went down, it ticked everybody off and they responded.”

Krukow went as far to imply that the Cardinals’ questionable victory may have woken up a Giants offense that hadn’t scored a run in 12 innings.

“Guess what came out of it? Momentum, collectively. Everybody in that Giants dugout kind of got ticked off at the same time,” Krukow said. “That’s good. When you have a 35 part harmony of ticked off, that unites the bunch.”

“Something good did come out of it.”
