SANTA CLARA — Dez Bryant has a slight hairline fracture in his knee, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett announced during a teleconference with the San Francisco media.

Bryant’s status for Sunday remains up in the air. Garrett said it’s a “day-by-day, week-by-week, situation.”

Bryant was injured Sunday night against the Bears. He underwent an MRI following the game and will miss practice on Wednesday. Some medical experts say this injury needs three weeks of healing, but he played through the pain against Chicago.

This is obviously good news for the 49ers secondary. Even if Bryant is able to suit up, he won’t be at 100 percent. The 49ers will be missing Jimmie Ward this weekend, arguably the team’s top cornerback. Tramaine Brock will remain in the starting lineup alongside either rookie Rashard Robinson or Keith Reaser. Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil says how well Robinson and Reaser practice this week will determine the starter.

Bryant missed significant time last season with a broken foot. He has 11 catches, 150 yards and one touchdown so far this season.
