To say that Johnny Cueto’s complete game performance last night came at a crucial time for the San Francisco Giants would be an understatement. Cueto’s gem helped bring the faltering Giants back to life after looking dead in the previous series against San Diego, and helped them gain ground in both the wild card and division race.
Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow joined the Murph and Mac Show on Friday morning and explained the effect Cueto’s mound presence has on the rest of the team.
“When you are in a grid in September, everybody looks at the pitcher like kids look at their parents,” Krukow said. “His mood totally sets the tune for everybody else’s mood. With Cueto it’s so relaxed, it’s so much fun.”
“You cannot underestimate that type of effect a guy has on a team. That’s invaluable.”
