Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain was activated from the disabled list on Friday morning after a back strain sidelined him for a little more than two weeks.
The long-time starter will not reclaim a spot in the rotation spot and will instead pitch from the bullpen as a long reliever, making him the second Giants starter to move to the ‘pen this year. The other was Jake Peavy, who made way for Matt Moore.
Cain has had a difficult year on the mound and the move is not a surprising one, as he currently has a 5.81 ERA and 4-8 record. Albert Suarez will draw the start for Friday’s game against the MLB-best Chicago Cubs.
