The Giants (61-45) hold a two game lead over the Dodgers (59-47) in the NL West.
Just as things are heating up, Los Angeles received a huge blow on Wednesday.
LHP Clayton Kershaw has been moved to the 60-day disabled list. He is eligible to return August 27.

On the season, Kershaw is 11-2, has a 1.79 ERA, and has struck out 145 batters. He’s 2-0 against San Francisco this season, allowing just a .167 batting average in three games. Kershaw won both the Cy Young and MVP award in 2014. He has not pitched since June 26th.
The Giants are still just 4-12 since the All-Star break, while the Dodgers are 8-7. San Francisco acquired starting pitcher Matt Moore, third basemen Eduardo Nunez and relief pitcher Will Smith in trade deadline deals. The Dodgers also swung for the fences, landing outfielder Josh Reddick and pitcher Rich Hill.
The Giants are 6-4 against the Dodgers this season and the clubs have three remaining series’ against each other — one in August, September and the final three-game set of the season in October.
