Osich to DL with forearm strain; Reynolds recalled

Just after the Giants pulled second baseman Joe Panik off the disabled list, another Giant landed back on it. Left-hander Josh Osich was placed on the 15-day DL with a left forearm strain. The club recalled another lefty, Matt Reynolds, out of Triple-A Sacramento to take Osich’s place.

Reynolds signed with the Giants last month out of the Atlantic League (independent ball), where he posted a 1.64 ERA in 26 games with the Lancaster Barnstormers. He pitched five games in Triple-A Sacramento and allowed only a hit in 5 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. Reynolds previously had stops in Arizona and Colorado, two hitter-friendly parks that never lent him much success.

Osich hadn’t pitched in five days, and manager Bruce Bochy hinted earlier he had a couple bullpen arms that were unavailable. This appears to be why that was the case. He’s been used primarily as a lefty specialist after his season-long struggles with right-handed hitters.
