David Lee signs with Spurs [report]

David Lee badly wanted to get back on a championship contending team.

It’s just not going to be the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors traded Lee to the Celtics in 2014 and he played last season with the Mavericks, averaging 8.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds in 17.1 minutes per game. The Spurs signed Pau Gasol this offseason but also lost Tim Duncan to retirement, David West to the Warriors and Boban Marjanovic to the Pistons. Lee could see some legitimate playing time under Gregg Popovich.

Lee, 33, remains a Bay Area fan favorite, and was serenaded with cheers when he received his championship ring back in April. He also attended a Warriors playoff game against the Rockets, sitting courtside. If we’re playing the prediction game, Lee will likely be making another postseason trip to Oracle Arena in 2017, but this time as a member of the Spurs.
