Anderson Varejao was set to be one of four Warriors taking part in the Rio Olympics in August, but reports surfaced today that a back injury is likely to prevent the recently re-signed big man from playing for his native country while they host the games.

In addition to former Warrior Leandro Barbosa, Varejao would’ve been one of 5 NBA players partaking in the tournament for Brazil. The Warriors still have three players who will participate and play for the heavily favored US team – Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant.
Varejao averaged 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 22 regular season games for the Dubs last season, and saw 93 minutes of action over 17 games in the playoffs.
