The 49ers may be bolstering their roster just before preseason camps begin. On Monday morning, former offensive lineman Anthony Davis tweeted out that he has applied to be reinstated to the NFL.
My Official Reinstatement Letter to the @NFL & @49ers has been sent!

David, 26, was drafted by San Francisco with the 11th overall pick in 2010 and started in all 64 games of his first four seasons with the team. During the 2015 offseason, Davis released a statement saying he was retiring from professional football claiming, “This will be a time for me to allow my Brain and Body a chance to heal. I know many won’t understand my decision, that’s ok.”
But since then, he has been at odds with Trent Baalke, subtweeting the GM on several occasions. Here’s a timeline of those tweets, which included this quote from the offensive lineman:
“I do not want to work with a front office or anyone else who seemingly doesn’t want to win as bad as I do.”
Earlier last week, Davis was in two training videos, which can be seen here and here, showing the former 49er participating in various offensive line drills.
Davis would bolster the 49ers roster if he makes his granted reinstatement and returns to the team. It’s unclear, or better yet, unlikely, Baalke will accept him with open arms.
