As the Giants look to pad their NL West division lead during a road trip against Boston and New York, their rival took some bad news on the chin Tuesday.

Kershaw has not pitched since June 26 due to the herniated disk. The Dodgers have two pivotal series’ coming up this week against the Nationals and Cardinals, and it appears that Kershaw will not be able to return in time.

On the season, Kershaw is 11-2, has a 1.79 ERA, and has struck out 145 batters. He’s 2-0 against San Francisco this season, allowing just a .167 batting average in three games. Kershaw won both the Cy Young and MVP award in 2014.

The Giants (57-36) remain 5.5 games ahead of the Dodgers. Los Angeles is 10-7 in 17 games without Kershaw.
