The Warriors took a step closer to making their San Francisco arena a reality, as San Francisco Superior Court Judge Garrett Wong made a ruling in their favor Monday.
The Mission Bay Alliance, which opposes the $1 billion waterfront plan due to environmental issues, helped delay the Warriors’ planned opening by one year. While the arena still won’t be ready until the 2019-2020 season, the SF Superior Court ruled in favor of the city and its Environmental Impact Report.
The Warriors issues a statement soon after the decision came down:
“We’re very pleased by the court’s ruling. We engaged in an extensive public planning process and we were approved by every board, agency and regulatory body we went before. Now our project has been upheld by the court. This decision brings us a huge step closer to building a new state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, which will add needed vitality to the Mission Bay neighborhood and serve the entire Bay Area extremely well. We look forward to breaking ground soon.”
