The NBA world is mourning the loss of a legend. Longtime Warriors big man and seven-time All-Star Nate Thurmond died at the age of 74 Saturday morning.

Thurmond was an elite rebounder and defender who also averaged 15 points per game throughout his career. He played 11 seasons in the Bay Area and continued to live here, often attending Warriors games.

Thurmond was also an intelligent communicator and an ambassador of the game of basketball. Thurmond said the lack of egos is why the Warriors were able to quickly rise to a championship-level team, but he also was never afraid to be critical.

“Steven Adams should not be out on an island with Steph Curry, okay?” Thurmond said. “That was a big mistake.

On May 31, Thurmond called into the Gary and Larry Show for the last time. It was a wonderful final performance from one of the Bay Area’s most celebrated legends.

Rest in peace, Nate.
