Ray McDonald causes controversy with HS visit

Former 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald, whose NFL career has been derailed by legal issues, stirred up a district-wide controversy after talking to a group of at-risk high school students about a new initiative in Hayward neighborhoods.

After hearing of the visit, Hayward School District Superintendent Stan Dobbs, was placed on paid administrative leave. The meeting and McDonald’s appearance at the school is under further investigation.

Although McDonald has not been convicted of any crimes, his past presents itself with various, being charged with both rape, and domestic violence and child endangerment. Both instances caused the defensive tackle to be released by the 49ers and Bears, respectively. Read the school district’s statement here.
