The money is a lot, but we knew the 49ers were going to have to overpay for free agents this season, especially without a quarterback in place. Shanahan is confident he can get 1,000 yards or more next season from Garcon.

Hoyer is a much more realistic starting quarterback than Matt Schaub. Hoyer had a great start to last season with the Bears — six touchdowns, no interceptions, 67.0 completion percentage — before breaking his arm. Shanahan is a big fan of the 31-year-old.

Rashard Robinson had a fantastic rookie season and Tramaine Brock is a solid option. The team also has nickel back K’Waun Williams and last year’s rookie Will Redmond, who did not see the field after ACL surgery.

San Francisco is in good hands at safety with Eric Reid and Jaquiski Tartt. It’s also rumored the 49ers are interested in Jamal Adams and Malik Hooker with the No. 2 overall pick.

If Shanahan loves Cousins, and nobody else, there’s too many variables in play that could keep him away from San Francisco.

The 49ers’ fear here is that they don’t want to miss out on an Adrian Peterson just because they have a Carlos Hyde on the roster. You’ll hear Kyle Shanahan say depth is never a bad problem to have in this league. And for that reason alone the chatter about Fournette will not be quieting…
