The catastrophic inevitable has finally happened for Giants fans. As the sun rises on the morning of Halloween, the Dodgers are World Series Champions. Real world series champions. There’s no angle, no quick retort, nothing Giants fans can say about a shortened season with empty stadiums. This one’s legit. On Friday morning, there will be a parade in LA. To state the obvious, that sucks. But to attach a cliche, it’s about how you respond.
The already high stakes just got higher for Giants legend and President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey in his first year at the helm of his beloved alma mater. Posey enters his inaugural season tasked with satisfying a starved fan base that is now strapped with even more anger and contempt for its southern rivals than it usually stores. Less than 24 hours into the offseason, the gas on MLB’s hot stove is already heating up, now it’s time for Posey to start playing his cards.
On Thursday morning, MLB insider Bob Nightengale reported that San Francisco would be promoting from within to fill its vacant general manager position, one who will work under Posey as his right hand man as the Giants build a contender for 2025. A promotion from within isn’t what many expected, but it does reveal that while the overall leadership of the Zaidi regime wasn’t adequate for ownership, many of the moves were technically sound.
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo joined the morning show on Thursday to provide some clarity on the state of the Giants moving forward. Russo, a longtime Giants fan turned national pundit, said the Giants need to do some self reflection ahead of this winter’s hunt for big game.
“The Giants right now are not a desirable location. First off, they’re in the shadow of the team from the south. The ballpark from an offensive standpoint can be a hindrance. DOn’t screw around. I know they want a big star, I get it. Build up your farm system, and get GOOD, before you start chasing free agents.”
