Kyle Harrison’s debut went pretty well, but it wasn’t without a brief scare.

Harrison had an issue with his throwing hand after the first inning on Tuesday, but was able to stay in the game. On Wednesday morning with Markus & Mac, Harrison revealed that it was a cut caused by his offspeed pitches.

“With this new cutter thing I’m throwing I think, using the slider a little more, the seams kind of just ripping on the top part of my index finger a little,” Harrison said on KNBR. “It just was cut open a little, didn’t hurt or anything, there was just blood there so had to stop the blood. Nothing too bad. You can pitch through it so it was all good. Put super glue on there and it was all good.”

Harrison’s fastball was far more effective than his breaking pitches, one of which was tattooed by Bryce Harper for a two-run homer to dead center.

That said, Harrison was largely impressive, flashing swing and miss stuff and walking just one batter. Despite that he was pulled after just 65 pitches, but says he has not been told he’s on a pitch count.

“I know they haven’t really communicated with me, so it’s tough for me to say anything,” Harrison said. “I’m not sure what their plan is. Whatever it is, I trust it and will be ready to go whenever they need me.”
