The Giants have a couple starting pitchers who have disappointed so far this season, and it’s presented a buy low opportunity for other teams around the league.

According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, teams have begun “inquiring on that depth”, with Alex Wood tabbed by Murray as the most likely SF starter to generate interest from other teams.

On balance, the left-handed Wood has not been good this season. The 32-year-old has posted a 4.75 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 16 appearances [11 starts] while dealing with early season injuries. It’s a continuation of a very rough 2022 season, when Wood had arguably the worst full season of his career, posting a 5.10 ERA in 26 starts.

Throughout his career, however, Wood has been a mostly very good pitcher and has a unique left-handed delivery that is always enticing for those looking for rotation help. Of course, the Giants need rotation help of their own, so offloading Wood would probably only make sense if it coincided with SF acquiring a top-line starter.

Wood has been used as an opener a few times this season, especially recently, but has made it clear he wants to start games.
