Steve Young’s time at ESPN has come to an end.

Young, 61, was among the 20 or so high-profile front-facing employees fired from the World Wide Leader on Friday, as the company executed a plan to let go of a number of people with seven-figure salaries.  Jeff Van Gundy, Jalen Rose, Suzy Kolber, Max Kellerman and Keyshawn Johnson were also among those let go.

Young is considered one of the best NFL analysts in the country, and was a staple of the network’s Monday Night Football pre and postgame shows since 2000. He was also a frequent guest on the Pardon the Interruption program, one of the network’s longest running shows.

Young, a former three-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers, will continue to do weekly hits during the football season on KNBR.
